In response to the rapidly worsening situation in the Middle East, a coalition of 21 Muslim-majority nations has issued a strong appeal demanding the cessation of Israel’s recent military actions against Iran.
The call for peace was made in a joint communiqué released on June 17, reflecting collective concern over the security implications of the hostilities that have flared since June 13, 2025.
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, brought attention to the statement through a post on X (formerly Twitter), underscoring the solidarity among Islamic countries in urging restraint and respect for international norms.
The statement was signed by the foreign ministers of nations including Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Türkiye, the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Pakistan, among others. The group unequivocally denounced Israel’s military maneuvers, branding them as breaches of the United Nations Charter and international legal frameworks.
The diplomatic bloc emphasized the critical importance of upholding sovereign integrity, advocating for non-violent resolutions, and fostering regional cooperation through peaceful means. They warned that further escalation would destabilize an already fragile region and risk triggering broader consequences for global security.
The joint declaration also brought renewed focus to disarmament efforts, calling for a nuclear-free Middle East and urging regional states to adhere to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
In particular, the ministers condemned the targeting of nuclear facilities safeguarded by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stressing that such actions defy international humanitarian law, including the Geneva Conventions of 1949.
Additionally, the statement highlighted the urgency of preserving freedom of navigation in key maritime routes, warning against any moves that might disrupt international shipping lanes.
In its final remarks, the collective reaffirmed that enduring peace cannot be achieved through force. Instead, they championed diplomatic dialogue and international cooperation as the only sustainable path toward resolving conflicts and restoring stability in the region.
