Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab DG Irfan Kathia visits Meteorological Department office in Lahore to enhance monsoon preparedness efforts.
Zaheer Baig, the director of the PDMA, and other senior officers accompanied him.
Chief Meteorologist Zaheer Babar provided a thorough briefing on the Meteorological Department’s operations and the anticipated weather patterns for this year during the visit.
The Met Office predicts that this year’s monsoon rains will be 25% more than usual, with August probably seeing the most rainfall and cloud cover.
According to Irfan Kathia, every preparation has been made to handle Punjab’s expected high rainfall and possible flooding.
In order to reduce damage and maintain public safety, he promised that early warnings would be sent out in important cities like Lahore, Multan, and Faisalabad.
Urban flooding and cloudburst risk were given particular attention.
To handle such extreme weather events, the chief meteorologist and the DG PDMA decided to work together to create a thorough response plan.
The meeting also covered flood risks in Rod Kohi and river water levels.
To safeguard vulnerable communities, the PDMA Punjab confirmed that early warning systems for possible flood torrents (flood rails) in these areas will be turned on beforehand.
Kathia went to the Meteorological Department’s control room to look over the real-time monitoring systems.
He highlighted the Meteorological Department’s and PDMA Punjab’s coordination as a major strength in handling monsoon-related emergencies and expressed gratitude for their effectiveness and communication.
