The home department of Punjab Thursday said it has received 932 links of social media which has been reported to the cyber patrolling cell.

A spokesman of the home department has declared that 74 individuals have been jailed on inflammatory posts on the social media.

According to home department, the cyber patrolling cell has been keeping track of sectarian and provocative content in the social media.

The spokesman said, an immediate action is being initiated over the social media posting on religious hatred-based posts.

According to the home department, the government had been pursuing a zero-tolerance policy when referring to incitement on the social media.

The spokesman encouraged the citizens not to publish sectarian content in their posts on social networks.

Azma Bokhari, the Punjab Information Minister had already issued a warning that anyone using social media would be arrested on the spot to curb any posting of fake or inflammatory material during the Muharram.

Talking to a press conference in Lahore, Bokhari stated that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has already directed to implement strict measures against any hate speech, sectarianism and violence using social media platforms in the auspicious month.

Expressing those concerns, she said there would be a special cyber security force looking at the social media side of it and working with Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

She then added that those behind such propagation of false information will be taken to task including being suspended on their accounts and even be taken to court.
