Veteran playwright, satirist, and cultural figure Anwar Maqsood has brought to the fore once again the absence of performing arts infrastructure in Karachi.
Commenting at a recent function, Maqsood stated, “There is no dearth of talent in this city. Karachi is full of talented people who only need proper platforms to flourish.”
He asserted that although Karachi has given birth to infinite stars in literature, theatre, and television, the city cries for adequate live-performance spaces. “I have asked the Sindh government to construct theatres in each neighbourhood,” he explained.
In his view, open theatres throughout the city would foster local talent and rejuvenate the dying theatre culture of Pakistan’s biggest metropolis.
Anwar Maqsood also expressed a worrying concern regarding digital impersonation, where he reported that 16 fake accounts in his name have been made on different social media sites.
“People are being deceived. These accounts are not operated by me or anyone known to me,” he cautioned, calling on the public to remain vigilant and confirm the genuineness of online profiles before sharing or trusting information.
