On Tuesday, Sindh government declared 5th and 6th July as public holidays in the province to observe Ashura, confirmed in an official notification.
Officially the provincial authorities announced holidays on 9th and 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram so that the sacred days of the Islamic faith could be celebrated with reverent respect.
According to the statement released by the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department, all the government and semi-government offices in the province will be shut on Saturday and Sunday.
These municipal councils as well as autonomous authorities under the government of Sindh will also accord these two public holidays.
The move has been made keeping in view with traditional commemoration of Muharram and Ashura, the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in Karbala and is marked by mourning processions and religious congregations all over Pakistan.
The state has advised people to uphold unity and collaboration with the law enforcers in the streets at the time when the Ashura processions are going on so that a serene and safe situation is experienced.
