RAWALPINDI: ASP Shehrbano Naqvi, hailed for her courageous actions in diffusing a volatile situation at Lahore’s Ichhra Bazaar, recently met with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir at the General Headquarters.

COAS General Asim Munir commended ASP Shehrbano Naqvi for her selfless devotion to duty and professionalism during the challenging incident on February 26. In a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations, the army chief praised the fearless officer for extricating a woman from a difficult milieu, showcasing exceptional bravery.

Acknowledging the indispensable role of Pakistani women across various domains, Gen Munir highlighted their distinction in talent, tenacity, and commitment both domestically and internationally since the country’s independence.

Moreover, COAS emphasized the invaluable contribution of women to Pakistan’s societal fabric, emphasizing that their respect is embedded in both religious principles and social ethos. He underscored the significance of social harmony and called for a nationwide consensus to combat intolerance.

In his address, General Asim Munir stressed the importance of adhering to the rule of law, discouraging arbitrary actions based on heresy, and advocating for the utilization of legal avenues to address concerns and grievances. He reminded that such actions undermine the societal outlook.

COAS further highlighted Islam’s enduring message of kindness and benevolence, emphasizing the need for compassion in dealing with matters of disagreement or dissent. Lastly, General Asim Munir expressed appreciation for the sacrifices made by law enforcement agencies highlighting ASP Shehrbano Naqvi and others in ensuring the safety and security of the citizens of Pakistan.

ASP Shehrbano saves woman from mob attack

ASP Shehrbano Naqvi rescued a woman from an enraged mob accusing her of ‘blasphemy’ due to her Arabic calligraphy-adorned dress. The shopkeepers in Ichra Bazaar played a crucial role in defending the woman, offering her refuge until the police arrived. Contrary to the mob’s accusation, it was revealed that the garment traders in the market were well aware that the Arabic calligraphy print on the dress was available for sale.

The collaborative efforts between military and law enforcement authorities aim to address the complex dimensions of the case and uphold national security in the face of challenges that demand a unified approach. The meeting signifies a united front against injustice and a commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens.
