Pakistan has obtained a $2 billion commitment from Azerbaijan on Friday when the two countries signed a milestone agreement of partnership.
The agreement is an indication of the uninterrupted inflow of investment in Pakistan during the tenure of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov signed the agreement in front of the prime minister for a cumulative investment of $2 billion by Azerbaijan in Pakistan’s economy. The Pakistani delegation was also there on the occasion.
The agreement was inked between the two nations after the amicable meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Khankandi.
The final and comprehensive agreement will be inked on the visit of Azerbaijani president to Pakistan.
The accord has taken investment and trade relations between the two nations to a record level. It is likely to act as a landmark in further consolidating brotherly relations and boosting trade partnerships.
Prior to the recent visit of the prime minister, the deputy prime minister and the foreign minister, Pakistan’s mission abroad, and the concerned delegations arrived at an understanding on all facets of the accord.
Both nations also committed to additional exchanges for the sake of increased cooperation in various sectors.
In a statement to the media in Shusha, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan and Azerbaijan had agreed on a $2 billion investment deal, further asserting that future investments will grow manifold.
“We are grateful to the president of Azerbaijan for investing in Pakistan,” he added.
He further stated that he had a fruitful and significant meeting with the president of Azerbaijan.
The PM informed that the member states in the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) summit had mutually decided to increase cooperation in trade, and investment.
