Despite delivering a stellar 94-run performance in Peshawar Zalmi’s recent clash with Karachi Kings, Babar Azam expressed that individual brilliance holds little weight when the team fails to secure victory.
Speaking at a media briefing in Rawalpindi, the Zalmi skipper emphasized that while personal form can fluctuate, determination and effort remain constant.
Azam acknowledged the advantage bowlers have when they get to operate first, allowing a better understanding of the pitch. “Interpreting pitch behavior is a skill in itself,” he remarked.
He also highlighted the significance of foreign cricketers rejoining the Pakistan Super League’s tenth edition after a temporary pause triggered by rising Indo-Pak tensions. “The return of international players is encouraging and brings renewed energy to the tournament,” Azam noted.
When discussing his dismissals, the right-hander admitted that poor shot selection rather than exceptional bowling is often to blame. “Most of my wickets fall due to my own errors,” he candidly shared.
As for returning to top form, Babar remarked that even modest contributions can pave the way. “Scoring between 20 to 40 runs can often help rebuild confidence and rhythm,” he said. “No matter the strategy, the target is always to contribute effectively.”
He clarified that he has not engaged in recent conversations with PCB selectors regarding future team plans and mentioned that his position in the batting order for T20 Internationals is not fixed. “Opening isn’t a guarantee every time,” he pointed out.
Reflecting on the ongoing league action, Babar shared how much the team is enjoying their PSL campaign and appreciated the vibrant atmosphere at Pindi Cricket Stadium, especially the fireworks.
He concluded by commending Zalmi for honoring the sacrifices and service of Pakistan’s Armed Forces, calling it a meaningful gesture of national pride.
