Quetta earthquake, caused residents to panic; however, no injuries or property damage have been reported so far.
The National Seismological Centre reports that the earthquake registered 4.9 on the Richter scale.
With the epicentre about 125 kilometres northwest of Quetta, the tremors hit at a depth of 21 kilometres.
Although no prompt reports of structural damage or injuries have come in, emergency response agencies were put on standby.
A spokesperson for the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said, “So far there is no report of any loss of life or damage to infrastructure; however, we are closely watching the condition.
Officials have urged the public to maintain calm and to use the specific hotline to report any crises situation in Quetta earthquake.
Local government officials and rescue squads have been mobilized to evaluate any possible effect in remote regions.
Earlier, shakes were experienced in a number of cities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday, creating panic among people although no immediate reports of injuries or destruction have been received.
The earthquake had a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale, said the National Seismological Centre.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 230 kilometers and had its epicentre in the Hindukush region of Afghanistan.
Residents in Peshawar, Chitral, Upper Dir, Mardan, Khyber, Malakand, Swat, Mohmand, and the surrounding areas experienced the tremors.
Numerous people evacuated houses and buildings as a precaution, even though the deep epicenter minimized the effects on the surface.
Authorities have advised people to remain calm but alert, since aftershocks can be expected.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is keeping a close watch on the situation.
