Director and Wrirer Asim Abbasi’s latest series, “Barzakh,” set in the picturesque northern regions of Pakistan, has captured the entertainment industry’s attention. Abbasi, acclaimed for his works like “Cake” and “Churails,” has assembled an impressive ensemble, featuring Fawad Khan, Sanam Saeed, Muhammad Fawad Khan, Khushhal Khan, Uzma Beg, and Salman Shahid.
Recently, a fan reached out to Abbasi, accusing him of promoting LGBTQ themes in “Barzakh.”
The message read, “Please refrain from adding fuel to the fire by suggesting Saifu ‘chose.’ People are calling for a boycott, and you’re providing more reasons. Celebrating these characters under the guise of art is inappropriate. It was wrong in ‘Churails,’ and it’s wrong here.”
In response, Abbasi defended his work, stating, “With all due respect, if you find queer/non-heteronormative storylines ‘distasteful,’ please refrain from watching my content. Thank you.”
He affirmed that the “Barzakh” team is committed to telling LGBTQ stories they believe in.
The backlash has been notable, with some fans opting to boycott the series due to their religious beliefs and views on LGBTQ representation.
