Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, President Joe Biden has ordered the U.S. military to shoot down any Iranian missiles aimed at Israel.
In a tweet released earlier today, Biden stated, “This morning, VP Harris and I convened our national security team to discuss Iranian plans to launch an imminent missile attack against Israel. We discussed how the U.S. is prepared to help Israel defend against these attacks and protect American personnel in the region.”
The President’s order comes as the situation intensifies, with Iran reportedly firing hundreds of missiles at Israel in retaliation for previous Israeli strikes on its leaders and allied militant groups.
This has raised significant concerns about the safety of both Israeli citizens and U.S. personnel stationed in the region.
Iran has launched missiles at Israel, according to a statement from the Israeli military on Tuesday. As sirens blared throughout the country, citizens sought shelter from the onslaught.
This attack follows warnings from a White House official indicating that Iran was readying an imminent ballistic missile strike against Israel.
The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue, mentioned that the United States was “actively supporting” Israel in its “defensive preparations.” He further warned that “any direct military aggression from Iran against Israel will have severe repercussions for Iran.”
This escalation comes in the wake of Israel’s assassination of Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah, a significant ally of Tehran, and the commencement of Israeli ground operations in southern Lebanon.
