Pir Suleman Shah Rashdi, a high-ranking official in Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, has stepped down in protest against the recent actions taken against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters.
Rashdi voiced his disapproval on social media platform X, condemning the government’s response and declaring: “After witnessing today’s disturbing events, I denounce this government and its actions. I am resigning from my position in civil service!”
In response to the government’s forceful approach, PTI decided to suspend its planned protest early Wednesday morning. A statement from the party’s official X account read, “Due to the government’s violence and its intention to turn the capital into a battleground for defenseless citizens, we are halting the protest for now.”
A PTI spokesperson criticized the security forces for using excessive force, alleging that unarmed protesters in Islamabad were met with gunfire, resulting in numerous injuries.
The party confirmed that the protests would be paused for the time being, with any future demonstrations to be determined after discussions between the party’s leadership and core committee.
