A casual remark made by actor Danish Taimoor during a Ramzan transmission aired on Green Entertainment caused a stir across social media, drawing criticism from viewers who found the comment inappropriate.
While participating in Mehfil-e-Ramzan, Taimoor referenced the Islamic allowance for having up to four wives, saying, “I can marry four women, but for now, I’m not choosing that path.”
Though brief, the comment went viral, prompting backlash and heated discussion about celebrities making light of sensitive religious topics on national television.
The statement fueled debate online, with many questioning the ethics of public figures referencing religious permissions for entertainment value.
Viewers expressed disappointment, accusing the actor of making light of a serious matter during a spiritually significant broadcast.
Amid the ongoing backlash, celebrity chef Mahnoor Malik—who had appeared on the same transmission—shed light on the context behind the now-viral moment.
Speaking during an interview on Marriam Kaiwan’s podcast, she defended Taimoor, suggesting the issue was blown out of proportion.
Mahnoor explained that the word “Filhal” (for now) is something Danish Taimoor uses habitually in his conversations and wasn’t meant to provoke. “It may have looked controversial on screen, but the energy on set was very different. Danish was actually the more polite and approachable of the two hosts,” she shared.
She also mentioned that the topic of multiple marriages had already been circulating among the show’s crew before actress Ayeza Khan appeared as a guest. Taimoor’s statement, according to her, was a continuation of that off-camera banter. “I don’t think there was any malice in what he said,”
Mahnoor stated. “And honestly, I feel Ayeza chose not to react because any reaction might’ve turned things even messier.”
While the controversy continues to spark discussion online, those close to the show insist the remark was misunderstood and lacked any deliberate intent to offend.
