Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday made a four-point proposal to assist in ending the Iran-Israel conflict in the Middle East, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said.
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday had phone talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which the two heads of state exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East.
In a statement shared on social media, Mao Ning said that Xi’s proposal emphasizes four key points:
- an urgent ceasefire must be a priority.
- ensuring civilian safety must be a top concern.
- dialogue and negotiation are the fundamental solutions.
- and the international community’s peacemaking efforts are indispensable.
Chinese President stated that the employment of force is not an appropriate means to settle international conflicts. He called on the conflicting parties, particularly Israel, to stop fire as soon as possible, Xinhua said.
The Chinese president stated that safeguarding the safety of civilians is the primary concern during the Iran-Israel conflict, and called on the conflicting parties to abide by international law strictly, and firmly avoid harming innocent civilians.
Dialogue and negotiation are the only way out, he said, appealing to the international community, especially great powers who have a special role to play with the parties to the conflict, to try to bring down the temperature.
China is willing to continue to enhance communication and coordination with all sides, mobilize their resources, and maintain justice, in order to contribute in a positive way to the restoration of peace in the Middle East, he added.
