Former prime minister of Pakistan Imran Khan, responded in writing to the Supreme Court on Wednesday to the intra-court petition seeking to invalidate the NAB changes.
In order to secure equality, Imran Khan stated that Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa should not hear his cases.
Imran Khan replied by asking that the intra-court appeals be dismissed.
He claimed that since corruption is harmful and has a negative impact on the economy, laws are not even changed to save corrupt people. This is not even the case in banana republics.
During the hearing, the former prime minister mentioned that Justice Athar Minallah had stated that he would also gain from the revisions. Imran Khan underlined that his position is unambiguous: it is a national issue rather than a personal one.
According to the PTI founder, Parliament should only enact laws that are compliant with the Constitution; if the NAB abuses its authority, changes should only be made to stop it. He used the Toshakhana case as an example of how the NAB had abused its authority against him.
In addition, he stated that the necklace’s true value was Rs18 million, but the NAB had inflated its value to Rs318 million in order to support their case against him.
Khan requested that the Chief Justice not hear his cases in order to guarantee justice based on previous rulings.
Imran Khan said that the public’s faith in the law is undermined by legislation intended to safeguard corruption, as corrupt persons have historically exploited the law and Parliament as a shield.
He went on to say that the Supreme Court shouldn’t ignore the facts and that legislation should serve the interests of the general public rather than just one particular person.
