Football icon Cristiano Ronaldo has gifted a signed Portugal jersey to U.S. President Donald Trump, accompanied by a heartfelt message reading “Playing for peace.”
Currently starring for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia’s Pro League, Ronaldo made the symbolic gesture as President Trump attended the G7 Summit in Alberta, Canada.
The shirt was personally handed to Trump by Portugal’s Prime Minister Antonio Costa, a close friend of Ronaldo and an influential supporter throughout the athlete’s career. Costa played a key role in the presentation, especially after witnessing Ronaldo lead Portugal to victory in their second UEFA Nations League title.
During the summit, President Trump engaged in high-level talks on global matters, including rising tensions between Iran and Israel.
Amid this tense backdrop, Ronaldo’s jersey—bearing the peace message—served as a symbol of unity through sport.
The phrase “Playing for peace” reflects Ronaldo’s belief in the unifying power of football, sending a powerful message during a time of growing global unrest.
Despite speculation about his future, Ronaldo has declined offers from clubs participating in the FIFA Club World Cup, indicating he may be close to extending his stay at Al Nassr.
His peace-driven gesture is a reminder of how sports can serve as a bridge between nations and a force for global solidarity beyond the pitch.
Separately, Donald Trump departed from the Group of Seven summit in Canada a day ahead of schedule because of the Middle Eastern situation, the White House informed on Monday.
The French President Emmanuel Macron claimed that Trump had proposed a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
Trump had previously called on everyone to leave Tehran immediately and restated that Iran should have agreed to a nuclear accord with the US.
