Austrian school attack: At least five people have been killed in an attack at a school in the Austrian city of Graz, and others were injured, according to Austrian media, including tabloid Kronen Zeitung, reported on Tuesday.
Austrian official broadcaster ORF reported that a number of individuals, including teachers and pupils, had suffered significant injuries, citing local police.
Although they declined to speak further, police stated that an operation was in progress in the Dreierschuetzengasse street, which is home to a secondary school.
According to police, several individuals were hurt, and the perpetrator was also slain. The number of students that died was not disclosed.
Police stated that they were working under the premise that the murderer acted alone, although they did not officially identify him.
Unverified rumors circulated by Austrian media that he was a former student who had broken into the school and started shooting at students.
“The rampage at a school in Graz is a national tragedy that has deeply shaken our entire country,” stated Christian Stocker, the chancellor of Austria.
“There are no words for the pain and grief that we all – all of Austria – are feeling right now.”
