India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) has raid the residential office and other 15 locations of Raj Kundra, husband of Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty, in pornography and money laundering cases.
According to Indian media reports these raids are a part of investigations into Kundra’s alleged involvement in a pornography racket and money laundering.
In February 2021 Mumbai police filed a case against Kundra for allegedly producing and distributing explicit content through subscription-based apps like HotHit Movies and Hotshots.
Remember that the Hotshots app, developed by Kundra’s company Armsprime Media Private Limited, was later sold to his brother-in-law Pradeep Bakshi’s UK-based firm.
As per these allegations Mumbai police arrested Kundra in June 2021 and spent two months in jail before being released on bail in September that year.
Even after Kundra’s bail Mumbai police started a detailed investigation of the matter. After this investigation police submitted a report in court. This report claimed that Kundra’ was involved in the sale of 119 adult films for approximately $1.2 million.
During court hearings, Kundra’s defense denied responsibility for determining the app’s content. However, Mumbai Police maintained that substantial evidence pointed to his direct involvement.
The ED is now raiding properties connected to Raj Kundra and his associates as part of its investigation to track the origin of illicit funds. Police is also looking for the other parties involved in this illegal business of production and selling of explicit content.
