ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said on Saturday the mock exercise of the Election Management System (EMS), on an experimental basis, yielded “useful†and “encouraging†results.
A spokesman for the ECP, in a statement, said certain connectivity challenges during the exercise caused minor issues in transmitting results to some presiding officers. Otherwise, presiding officers largely managed to deliver results satisfactorily.

The spokesperson, however, stated the ‘connectivity challenges’ were promptly resolved.
He said that EMS had been introduced for “compilation†and “tabulation†of results at the Returning Officers (ROs) level. And through the exercise, all ROs carried out compilation and tabulation of results without encountering any issue.
ROs’ offices at 859 locations nationwide took part in the exercise, which involved Fiber/DSL connectivity, EMS app log-in, usage, and the steps for results transmission and editing, it added.
It effectively accomplished the transmission of results by Presiding Officers and the compilation of results by Returning Officers through EMS.
If any presiding officer encounters difficulty in transmitting results to the RO via mobile phone, they are instructed to personally deliver the election results to the RO’s office, the statement said.
A day earlier, the ECP delegated the powers of a first-class magistrate to District Returning Officers (DROs) and Returning Officers (ROs) to ensure the peaceful and transparent conduct of the general elections 2024.
According to the ECP notification, magisterial powers were vested in the DROs and ROs in accordance with Section 193 of the Election Act 2017.
