ISLAMABAD: The Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) has called upon the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to make public the decisions related to the rejection of candidates’ nomination papers. Fafen emphasizes the need for detailed explanations to understand the grounds for paper rejection, asserting that this transparency is crucial for a fair electoral process.
According to FAFEN, returning officers can only reject papers based on specific regulations, while the Election Commission retains the authority to reject nominations that violate rules. The rejection rate for nomination papers in the 2024 elections stands at 12.4%, compared to 10.4% in 2018 and 14.6% in 2013.
FAFEN insists that publishing the decisions of returning officers on the Election Commission’s website regarding objections and rejections of nomination papers will enhance the transparency of the electoral process.
