Renowned Pakistani actor Faysal Quraishi has become the focus of online debate following his response to a viewer’s query during a televised appearance promoting his most recent film, Deemak.
Quraishi, engaged in a Q&A session with the live audience while making an appearance on a private TV station, as part of a campaign to promote the Eid release.
During the interaction, a female participant raised a concern about the repetitive themes often seen in Pakistani dramas, specifically the overuse of domestic, mother-in-law versus daughter-in-law plotlines. She asked how Deemak would offer a different experience.
Faysal Quraishi, who was clearly annoyed by the generalization, refuted the assertion by asking the audience to name these programs, claiming that Pakistani television had undergone significant changes.
He emphasized that these series represent creative variation and creativity rather than repetition, citing a number of recent dramas that strayed from clichéd tales, such as Khai, Ishq Murshid, Kabuli Pulao, Behrupiya, Dunyapur, Faraar, Saraab, and Raja Rani.
On social media, his forceful tone generated conflicting responses. Others thought his delivery was unduly harsh, while others defended his position and praised his support for the changing character of Pakistani storytelling.
He was promoting a horror film called Deemak, which has been doing well since its Eid release and has received positive reviews from viewers for its original idea and execution.
