Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), denounced the recent violent events in Islamabad and stated that he would be prepared to serve as mediator with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party if they stay in contact.
Rehman emphasized the value of reaching a consensus on national problems, including the Kachi Canal project, while speaking to the media in Larkana on Wednesday. He said that all provinces should be consulted and that mutual agreement should be used to resolve such situations.
Rehman restated his party’s position on provincial autonomy, emphasizing that it has supported it from the start. He said that no province should be coerced into demonstrations and that decisions on important issues must be made after consulting the provincial administrations.
He also emphasized the necessity of ongoing communication with PTI, saying that although he is open to mediation, the party has not maintained regular communication.
Rehman clarified that he was speaking to the PTI’s employees, who are often devoted to their cause, rather than the party’s leadership. He asserts that without using violence, a competent leader can moderate their followers’ fervor and steer them in the proper path.
Looking back at previous political events, Rehman noted that over 1.5 million people gathered in Islamabad during the rallies of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), which included the Azadi March, without any violent occurrences. He emphasized the importance of demonstrating to the workers the way of fight without encouraging violence.
In response to the ongoing instability in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, Rehman blasted the provincial administrations for their inaction, which has caused discontent in both regions.
He cautioned that the nation may plunge into chaos if the administration continues to be obsessed with imprisoning political figures and establishing a pattern of their release and subsequent re-arrest.
