Considering the team’s appalling performance in the ODI series against the West Indies, former captain of Pakistan Bismah Maroof declared her immediate retirement from all forms of cricket.
In 2006, Bismah made her debut in the One-Day Internationals against India, and in the Twenty20 Internationals against Ireland in 2009.
The left-handed batter played for Pakistan in 276 international matches, which is the most number of any Pakistani women’s cricket player. Her right-arm leg-spin has helped her capture 80 international wickets and amass 6,262 runs, including 33 half-centuries.
During her distinguished career, Bismah competed on the women’s team that placed first in the Asian Games in both 2010 and 2014.
She played for Pakistan in four ICC Women’s 50-over World Cups (2009, 2013, 2017, and 2022). In the 2022 tournament, which was hosted in New Zealand, she captained the squad.
“I have decided to retire from the game I love the most,” Bismah Maroof stated in response to a question about her choice. It has been an amazing journey full with successes, setbacks, and priceless experiences.
She thanked her family for being there for her when she started playing cricket and for their continued support.
