George Foreman death: George Foreman, renowned American heavyweight boxer and two-time world champion has passed away at the age of 76.
The news of George Foreman death was shared on social media by his family on Friday. “Our dedicated preacher, loving husband, caring father and proud grandfather and great-grandfather is no longer with us”, his family released the news of his death.
George was an acclaimed name in boxing, securing Olympic gold in 1968 and winning the world heavyweight title twice.
George also called “Big George,” Foreman had an extraordinary career in boxing spanning on astonishing 21 years.
The victory which ranked Georg among world’s most renowned boxers was his championship victory in 1994, at the age of 45. This win also cemented him as the oldest heavyweight champion in history.
Born on January 10, 1949, in Marshall, Texas, Foreman came at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, where he won a gold medal in the heavyweight division at just 19. He then pursued boxing a full time career and named an astonishing streak of 37 consecutive victories.
When Foreman defeated the unbeaten Joe Frazier in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1973, he won his first world title.
Foreman shockingly decided to give up boxing and follow his faith after suffering a second professional loss in 1977. Devoting himself to community service, he became an ordained preacher and founded the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Texas.
Later Foreman made a spectacular comeback to boxing ten years later, in 1987 to generate money for his youth center. He proceeded on a remarkable winning streak, winning 24 straight fights, even though he had not competed in ten years. He faced the defending champion Evander Holyfield in 1991, but he lost after a fierce 12-round bout.
With his passing, the world bids farewell to a sporting legend whose influence extended far beyond the boxing ring.
