Israel has announced the killing of senior Hamas leader and founding member Mohammad Issa Al-Issa in a precision airstrike, according to international media reports on Sunday.
In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that Al-Issa was eliminated in an airstrike targeting the Sabra neighborhood in Gaza.
Al-Issa is believed to have been one of the chief architects behind the October 7 attacks on Israel.
“Hakham Mohammad Issa Al-Issa was a significant source of knowledge and one of the last senior Hamas operatives in Gaza who held key roles before October 7, 2023,” the IDF said, identifying him as a high-ranking member of Hamas’s military wing.
Reports from Arab media described Al-Issa as the head of Hamas’s military support headquarters, where he played a vital role in planning and logistics.
Separately, the Israeli military also claimed responsibility for an airstrike in Lebanon that killed a senior Hezbollah figure. The target, Abbas Al-Hassan Wahbi, was said to be the intelligence chief of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force Battalion.
As of now, Hamas has not issued a response to Israel’s claims.
