According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), at least 64 people have been killed and 117 others injured since last week, by flash floods and heavy rains in different parts of Pakistan.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded the most deaths (23 deceased out of which 10 were children). Local media said a flash flood swept 14 people away at Swat Valley.
Flash floods caused the death of 21 people; 11 of them were children in the state of Punjab. In Sindh, 15 people died and in Balochistan, five people were killed.
In the meantime, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicted an exacerbation of the monsoon since July 5, threatening heavy rain, thunderstorms, and flash floods and flooding of urban areas in several regions.
Between July 5-10, heavy and very heavy rainfall will most likely occur in the regions of Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Rawalakot, Swat, Dir, Malakand, Kohistan, Chitral, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
In Punjab and Islamabad, major rainfall can be expected in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Multan. Punjab (South) is expected to receive rainfall on the dates 6th-8 July.
In the case of Balochistan, rain (rainfall) is expected in Loralai (July 3-4), Khuzdar (July 3-4), Lasbela (July 6-8) and once more on (July 3-4). Moderate rain with local intense falls are likely to be received in Sindh regions Karachi, Hyderabad, Tharparkar and Sukkur.
The PMD has also cautioned potential flash flooding in streams and nullahs of Murree, Galliyat, Chitral, swat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, DG Khan and parts of Balochistan, on July 58.
Low-level parts of Lahore, Peshawar, Gujranwala and Sialkot have also been expected to experience urban flooding between July 6 and 8.
