Heinrich Klaasen, a senior South African batsman, has made a major announcement of retiring from international cricket on Monday.
The decision was confirmed by the middle-order keeper-batter via his official Instagram account.
For South African cricket fans, the decision is a complete shock.
Known for his aggressive stroke play, Klaasen played 122 international matches for South Africa, including 60 ODIs, 58 T20Is, and four Test matches.
However, CSA ignored him from the list, and he was unable to acquire a central contract.
Klaasen explained in his retirement post that he made the choice for his own and his family’s benefit.

“It is a sad day for me as I announce that I have decided to step away from international cricket. It took me a long time to decide what’s best for me and my family for the future. It was truly a very difficult decision but also one that I have absolute peace with. I have made great friendships and relationships that I will treasure for life. Playing for the Proteas gave me the opportunity to meet great people that changed my life, and to those people I can’t say thank yo enough,” Klaasen wrote on Instagram.
