Pakistan’s 52-year gold drought ends with Arshad Nadeem’s win at Asian Athletics Championships, credits parental prayers.
At the South Korean championships, Nadeem won the gold medal in the javelin throw competition, defeating Sachin of India, who finished in second place.
With a throw of 83.75 meters, Yuta Sakiyama of Japan won bronze, and Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage of Sri Lanka came in fourth with 83.27 meters.
Muhammad Yasir, another competitor from Pakistan, finished eighth with a best throw of 75.39 meters.
In a social media post, Nadeem stated, “Winning this medal is a great honor.”
He went on to say that the nation’s prayers and Allah’s favor were responsible for the success.
Nadeem also praised his coach, Salman Butt, for his efforts, saying that the medal was the result of their combined diligence.
He had not won an international title since the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
It is anticipated that he would arrive in Lahore at 10.20 p.m. on Sunday.
Pakistan now enjoys international respect and recognition as a result of the triumph. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari praised Nadeem’s victory.
The last time Pakistan won gold at the Asian Athletics Championships was in 1973, when Muhammad Younis won the 800-meter race and Allah Daad won the javelin throw title.
Zardari wrote in his statement that Arshad Nadeem’s exceptional performance made the entire country proud.

He went on to say that new athletes can learn from Arshad Nadeem’s perseverance, commitment, and incredible accomplishment.
With a throw of 92.97 meters, Nadeem created a new Olympic record and won the gold medal in the men’s javelin final at the Paris Olympics in August.
