Veteran actress and television host Iffat Omar has shared a refreshing take on parenting, emphasizing that parents should not expect their children to support them in old age.
During a recent appearance on a morning show, Iffat spoke openly about her bond with her daughter. She shared that she never imposed restrictions on her and has allowed her complete freedom to make her own life choices.
Iffat Omar said that she has always raised her daughter to be independent and does not expect her to be her support system in old age
Iffat explained that while her daughter is free to seek guidance whenever she wants, she as a mother has made a conscious decision not to interfere in her daughter’s personal matters. She added that she has immense love for her daughter and always prioritizes listening to her whenever she needs to talk.
She also revealed that her daughter chose her life partner independently, and she fully supported the decision. Iffat said she does not believe in dictating what her daughter should or shouldn’t do. As parents, she and her husband stood by their daughter through all her decisions — and today, she is content and thriving.
Emphasizing her parenting philosophy, Iffat said that while she sees it as her duty to care for her child, she does not believe it’s her daughter’s responsibility to care for her in return during old age. She believes in raising self-reliant individuals, not expecting them to shoulder the burdens of their parents later in life.
