Actor Imran Abbas has expressed his discontent with the release of the Indian Punjabi film Sardaar Ji 3 in Pakistan, which coincided with the first day of Muharram.
He highlighted that this marked the unprecedented occasion of a film being released in Pakistan on a day that holds deep significance for Muslims, marking the beginning of a period of mourning.
The trailer for the movie, featuring Hania Aamir, debuted on June 22, while the film had its global premiere on June 27. It was released simultaneously in Pakistan, despite India imposing a ban that prevented its screening in local cinemas.
While several Pakistani celebrities voiced their support for the film, urging audiences to watch it on the big screen, Imran Abbas took a stand against its timing.
The Creature 3D actor, who starred opposite Bipasha Basu in Bollywood, took to Facebook to share his thoughts. He remarked, “I’ve never seen a movie released on the 1st of Muharram in Pakistan before. It’s not about sectarian differences, but certain days are important to us as Muslims. I still remember when PTV would air music-free broadcasts, but now we see dance and music shows even during the 9th of Muharram.”
