The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced plans to launch a statewide protest against the government, with Imran Khan, the party’s incarcerated founder, slated to lead the campaign from behind bars.
Senator Ali Zafar announced this update in front of media after his meeting with the PTI founder on Saturday. Following this meeting, Zafar declared that the founder has commanded him to plan and direct the protest strategy. However the founder himself will lead this campaign against the government, Zafar said.
He further confirmed that the rally would not take place in Islamabad, which has traditionally been the epicenter of political activity. “This will not be limited to the Federal Capital. The protest movement will be launched throughout the country,” he stated.
Zafar went on to say that Imran Khan has asked for this protest as the government has left no other option except of this.
“The founder said we were pushed to the wall and left with no other option. Now, we must take to the streets,” Senator Zafar added, quoting Imran Khan.
Earlier a day ago Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has shown their consent to hold talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif but subject to certain conditions.
In an exclusive interview at the Senate, senior leader Shibli Faraz of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) stated, “We [PTI] can hold talks with anybody on the national issues.”
But individuals in positions of authority have no control over anything at the moment.
“We [PTI] had previously terminated the government’s negotiations because they were not serious”.
Moreover, he also stated that imprisoning PTI founder Imran Khan will not lead to political stability.
