The incident in Pahalgam, a town in Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), prompted Indian sports streaming service Fancode to unexpectedly halt its live broadcasts of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL), according to Indian media on Thursday.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which also said it would not play in any bilateral cricket series with Pakistan due to the Pahalgam incident, made the decision in the midst of rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
Before ending the coverage, Fancode, the HBL PSL’s exclusive digital streaming partner in India, had aired 13 games from the league’s current 10th edition. Additionally, the platform has taken all HBL PSL-related information off of its website and apps, including match videos and highlights.
According to sources who spoke to Hindustan Times, the decision was made in the wake of the Pahalgam tragedy, in which Indian authorities said 26 tourists were slain in what they called a “terrorist attack.”
India has taken several diplomatic and economic actions against Pakistan as a result of the incident, which has caused political repercussions.
Pakistani people were given 48 hours to leave India after the Indian government declared that the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan would be immediately suspended. The number of diplomatic employees at the Indian High Commission in Pakistan is also being lowered, and the Indian military attaché in Islamabad has been called back. The Wagah border crossing has also been temporarily closed by India.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s National Security Committee of Pakistan responded by denouncing India’s decision to halt the water-sharing agreement as an act of aggression. The committee declared that cutting off Pakistan’s water supply would be deemed an act of war and threatened to respond with “strong and immediate force” to any additional provocation.
