According to senior Indian journalist Siddharth Varadarajan, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strategy during Operation Sindoor was based on faulty assumptions.
Varadarajan said that the Modi government’s policies have had unforeseen repercussions, including as the re-internationalization of the Kashmir dispute, in a critical analysis published on X (previously Twitter).
“The Modi administration is free to interpret this however it pleases, claiming that the Pakistanis ran to the United States and begged them to “rescue us” or that India achieved all of its goals, but the truth is that Modi did something that led to an unpleasant but predictable outcome,” Varadarajan wrote.
‘All our pilots are back home’ is not synonymous with ‘all planes are back home.’
“This is a big concession, and the unfortunate thing is that the IAF’s failure to give details will only support Pakistan’s allegations that it shot down several Indian planes.”
“Everyone is aware that ‘all our pilots are back home’ is not synonymous with ‘all our planes are back home,” he remarked.
Due to political pressures, the Modi government has refused to admit losses because the subsequent cost-benefit analysis could change the public’s opinion of Op. Sindoor’s usefulness.
