India’s Lok Sabha elections of 2024 seems to be a star-studded event as multiple celebrities took part in elections.
The election saw a coalition led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), under the leadership of the incumbent Prime Minister, emerge victorious, albeit with a reduced majority. The Indian National Congress-led alliance stood as the second-largest political bloc.
Numerous winners contested on the BJP ticket. Notable among them is the outspoken Bollywood A-lister Kangana Ranaut, who secured a victory in her debut parliamentary run from her hometown Mandi.
Hema Malini, affectionately known as the “Dream Girl” to her fans, clinched the Mathura constituency for the third consecutive time.
Arun Govil, renowned for his portrayal of the Hindu deity Rama in the long-running series “Ramayana,” secured victory in the Meerut constituency. Manoj Tiwari, a superstar of Bhojpuri-language cinema, claimed victory for the third time in the Northeast Delhi seat.
Ravi Kishan, another prominent figure in Bhojpuri and Hindi-language cinema, retained his Gorakhpur seat.
The BJP also celebrated a breakthrough victory in Kerala, courtesy of Suresh Gopi, who emerged victorious in the Thrissur constituency. In Andhra Pradesh, Pawan Kalyan of the BJP ally Jana Sena Party secured victory in the Pithapuram seat, adding to the star-studded roster.
The opposition Trinamool Congress, based in West Bengal, boasted a significant number of stars among its ranks. Dev Adhikari secured victory in the Ghatal constituency for the third consecutive time, defeating a challenge from fellow actor Hiran Chatterjee of the BJP. Shatrughan Sinha retained his Asansol seat for Trinamool, while June Malia and Satabdi Roy emerged victorious in the Medinipur and Birbhum constituencies, respectively.
However, not all film personalities emerged triumphant. Bollywood veteran Raj Babbar, representing the Indian National Congress, lost the Gurgaon constituency to BJP candidate Rao Inderjit Singh. In Azamgarh, the BJP’s Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirahua was defeated by the Samajwadi Party’s Dharmendra Yadav. Additionally, former actor and cabinet minister Smriti Irani, who secured victory over Indian National Congress leader in the 2019 general election, lost her seat to Congress veteran Kishori Lal Sharma this time around.
