A bridge over the Indrayani River near Kundmala village in Pune district, Maharashtra, collapsed due to heavy rains, resulting in a tragic incident under Pimpri-Chinchwad Police jurisdiction.
Reports state that at least 15 people are thought to be trapped, with two confirmed deaths and 32 injuries.
According to preliminary reports released by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police, five to six people have been rescued thus far.
Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local police have been sent to the Indrayani River bridge to conduct rescue operations.
Disaster relief personnel are still looking for people who have not been found.
The deputy chief minister of Maharashtra affirmed that the local government and NDRF are actively participating in the rescue operations.
Some individuals may have been carried away. We won’t release verified information until we have all the facts,” he stated.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad due to heavy rainfall.
NCP MP Supriya Sule responded to the incident by calling it “a very unfortunate incident”. She wrote on social media, “I sincerely pray to the Almighty for the safety of all those affected.”
