According to an AFP report on Saturday, Iran denounced US President Donald Trump’s comments as “disrespectful and unacceptable” after he claimed to have saved Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, from “an ugly and ignominious death.”
On the social media site X, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a forceful response, cautioning that such language will hinder attempts to resume talks.
Araghchi wrote, “If President Trump truly wants a deal, he should stop hurting his millions of loyal supporters and stop using such an offensive and unacceptable tone toward Iran’s Supreme Leader, Grand Ayatollah Khamenei.”
He continued by saying that “threats and insults are not tolerated by the great and powerful Iranian people, who demonstrated to the world that the Israeli regime had no choice but to flee to ‘Daddy’ in order to avoid being destroyed by our missiles.”
Donald Trump previously asserted that he stopped Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei from being assassinated, saying he would have permitted the strike but decided against it.
In response to recent Iranian claims that nuclear facility damage was exaggerated, Trump said in a post on his social media platform Truth Social that he had put an end to a plot between the US Armed Forces and Israel to kill Khamenei.
Trump added, “I knew exactly where he was sheltered, and I would not allow Israel, or the United States Armed Forces, which are simply the best and most powerful in the world, to end his life.”
He went on to remark, “He doesn’t have to say, ‘Thank you, President Trump,’ because I saved him from a very ugly and ignominious death.”
