The President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian issued an official statement on the suspension of cooperation with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), according to state media on Wednesday.
Parliament passed the law after the increased tension and armed confrontation with Israel.
With the new measure, any IAEA inspection visits in the future shall have to be agreed upon by the Supreme National Security Council of the state.
The action greatly limits the access of the UN nuclear watchdog to the Iran nuclear sites.
According to Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the suspension is to be upheld until safety of the nuclear facilities in Iran is assured.
He attacked the IAEA because it did not speak against the Israeli raids on Iranian based units and that the organization has lost its stature.
Qalibaf said “The Atomic Energy Organisation of the state will speed up the peaceful nuclear programme”, said Qalibaf, repeating the Iranian argument it was not seeking nuclear weapons.
This is after the IAEA passed a decision in the first half of June that found Iran to have breached its non-proliferation duties. Tehran has perceived the resolution as opening the door to hostile activity of Israel.
In the meantime, Iran Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi disclosed that the bomb attack of the Fordow nuclear plant by the US left a serious and heavy damage.
US intelligence, on the other, indicated that the extent of the hurt was still under review although President Trump said that the strikes has obliterated the nuclear program of Iran.
This change is a significant regress in international nuclear relations and an undoing of the fate of Iran nuclear deal system.
