The bill passed by Iran’s parliament to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency has been approved by the parliament’s national security committee.
Iranian state media said that a bill to halt collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was approved by the Iranian Parliament on Wednesday.
The bill also forbids IAEA inspectors from entering Iranian nuclear facilities unless their security is ensured. It was passed with 222 votes in favor, none against, and one abstention.
After recent regional escalations, the action indicates rising tensions between Iran and international nuclear watchdogs.
The Guardian Council has approved the bill that Iran’s parliament passed to halt the nation’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Tehran is thought to be responding to growing threats to its nuclear infrastructure with the legislation.
In Iran, the Guardian Council (Shourā-ye Negahbān), a strong 12-member body, has three main functions: It has the ability to veto laws passed by the Majlis, Iran’s parliament.
The council determines who is eligible to lead Iran’s political system and has considerable influence over it.
