Islamabad High Court has expressed dissatisfaction over the non-recovery of missing poet Ahmad Farhad while hearing a petition filed by the spouse of the Kashmiri poet.
The ISI has denied the poet is in its custody in a reply to the court through Ministry of Defence. IHC’s Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani is hearing the case.
Justice Kayani, over this, sought answer from both the ministry of interior and defence about the whereabouts of the poet. The matter is not as simple as being described, observed the judge, directing the investigation officers to record the state of the sector commander of the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and present it before the court on Tuesday.
He also warned the authorities to ensure recovery of the missing poet or he will call the prime minister before the court to explain position. He said the abduction of the poet was tantamount to issuing warning to the justice system. This intelligence agencies, he said, are not running this country and everyone has to abide by the law.
Justice Kayani said a sector commander of the ISI is 18-grade officer who consider himself most powerful man in the country. This case, he said, is a test case for the judiciary. “I will ensure recovery of the poet or issue the order which will always be remembered.”
If ISI is denying the custody then ask the Military Intelligence (MI), he order the police officers investigating the case, directing them to present complete report in document form till Tuesday.
Ahmad Farhad’s wife informed the people about the abduction of famous poet five days ago through social media platform.
“Ahmed Farhad was forcefully detained from their house at midnight by unknown men. They broke the CCTV cameras of the house and took away the digital video recorder (DVR),” she had posted on X. “Unknown men” is a reference widely used in Pakistan for intelligence agencies. Farhad was critic of the military establishment and penned verses on the issues of the human rights violations in the country.
