Following large-scale attacks on Iran, Israel has closed its embassies globally and advised citizens to remain vigilant, avoiding public displays of Jewish or Israeli symbols.
Israel will not be offering consular services, according to the announcements, which also advised people to work with local security forces in the event of hostile action.
The duration of the embassies’ closure was not specified. No other information was provided by a caller at the Berlin embassy, and a request for comment from Israel’s foreign ministry was not immediately answered.
Israelis living overseas were urged to report the foreign ministry on their whereabouts by completing a form. This was also done in order to plan rescue flights and arrange the return of reservists during the October 7, 2023, Hamas strikes on Israel.
“In light of recent developments, Israeli missions around the world will be closed and consular services will not be provided,”.
In a Friday conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that Germany was strengthening its defenses of Israeli and Jewish landmarks.
Except for a few police officers and their vehicles, the area surrounding the Israeli embassy in Berlin was mainly deserted and calm.
A police truck and a car were parked close to the Great Synagogue in Stockholm, increasing the level of visible protection.
In what may have been a protracted campaign to stop Tehran from developing an atomic weapon, Israel earlier claimed to have assassinated a large number of military leaders in Iran by attacking nuclear and missile factories.
