In a dramatic spike in hostilities, Israel’s Air Force on Monday has bombed Iran’s Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) headquarters during live broadcast.
The historic attack, which was directed at Tehran’s IRIB complex, momentarily interrupted programming and rocked the area.
Video from the incident shows an obviously shaken anchor at the Islamic Republic of Iran News Network (IRINN) during a live broadcast when an explosion shook the studio.
The screen behind her flickered and darkened, and dust and debris soon filled the room. Cries of “Allahu Akbar” could be heard in the background as the presenter hurried off-camera. Immediately, pre-recorded content took the place of the broadcast.
Iranian state media confirmed the attack, stating that the network would continue to operate in spite of the attack.
The political deputy of state TV was quoted as saying, “Your children at IRIB will continue their mission.”
Shortly before the airstrike, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reportedly issued an evacuation warning for the Tehran district where IRIB’s offices are located.
“The Iranian propaganda and incitement mouthpiece is on its way to disappear,” Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz declared, indicating a concerted attempt to undermine Iran’s state-run media outlets.
