New Israeli airstrikes have bombarded a number of cities in Iran, at least four strategic sites were struck in the northwestern province of East Azerbaijan, according to Iranian media on Saturday.
Residents of Khorramabad and Kermanshah cities also heard loud explosions. The Iranian authorities are not yet able to confirm the total damage, although the security sources report that the targets were military and intelligence structures.
In addition, Tensions between Iran and Israel are escalating after a deadly attack earlier this week, with Iran reportedly planning another significant retaliatory attack against the Jewish state. The next stage is reportedly planned by the Iranian officials to launch 2,000 missiles at Israel.
The Iranian media report that Tehran has officially notified the United States, the United Kingdom, and France of its plan to retaliate.
In the meantime, reacting to the increased threats, the Israeli police have activated 600 more reserve officers, according to the Arab media reports. This action is despite the concerns of reprisal by Iran and its regional allies.
In a separate breaking event, the Supreme Leader of Iran has announced the appointment of a new commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force, who is Brigadier General Seyed Majid Mousavi.
This comes after the alleged martyrdom of the long-serving commander of the force, General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, who was killed in an Israeli attack barely a day before the decision.
