An Israeli airstrike on a UN school in al-Nuseirat, central Gaza Strip, has resulted in at least 27 deaths and numerous injuries, according to the media office of the Hamas-run Gaza government.
Reports indicated that an Israeli fighter jet targeted at least three classrooms with multiple missiles.
This attack is part of the bloodiest conflict Gaza has experienced, triggered by Hamas’s October 7 assault on southern Israel, which killed 1,194 people.
Israel’s retaliatory bombardment and ground operations have resulted in over 36,586 deaths in Gaza, primarily civilians, according to Gaza’s health ministry.
Israel’s actions have led to increasing diplomatic isolation, with legal cases against it in international courts and several European countries recognizing a Palestinian state.
UNRWA, the agency coordinating nearly all aid to Gaza, has faced significant challenges since January, when Israel accused about a dozen of its employees of involvement in the October 7 attack. UNRWA’s chief, Philippe Lazzarini, recently urged Israel to cease its campaign against the agency in an opinion piece for the New York Times.
