The institute, launched during the PTI government, has been officially renamed Maryam Nawaz Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases after cabinet approval.
In an interview with Samaa TV, Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique confirmed the change, saying the new name reflects the hospital’s new identity as a distinct, independent entity that is no longer operating as a Jinnah Hospital expansion project.
Rafique declared, “The hospital is now an independent facility and will be governed by its own board.”
“It will no longer be administratively controlled by Jinnah Hospital or associated with it in any manner.”
In order to meet international standards for cardiac treatment, the minister disclosed that the Maryam Nawaz Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases is being developed using a futuristic approach. Plans consist of:
Installation of robotic and AI-powered medical equipment
Facilities for medical travel
Facilities designed to draw in foreign patients in need of cutting-edge cardiovascular treatment
“We anticipate that foreign patients will seek care here. Rafique continued, “The hospital is being constructed with a vision for health tourism and state-of-the-art technology.
He added that official departmental communications and the provincial budget book both reflect the hospital’s new name.
