Residents in multiple areas of Karachi were briefly startled on Saturday morning as light seismic movement was reported once again.
As per details from the geological monitoring authorities, the tremor occurred shortly before 10 AM, registering a magnitude of 3.2. The seismic disturbance originated from an area north of Malir, approximately 35 kilometers beneath the earth’s surface.
Localized vibrations were observed in regions including Quaidabad, Shah Faisal Colony, Gulzar-e-Hijri, and areas adjoining University Road. Locals mentioned feeling a mild shake that passed quickly, with no prolonged impact.
“In response to the tremor, people stepped out from homes and commercial buildings for a brief moment,” shared a resident from the Shah Faisal vicinity.
Experts from the geological monitoring centre clarified that the tremor was weak and posed no significant risk. They linked this event to ongoing low-intensity seismic patterns being observed throughout the month.
“This is consistent with a recurring trend we’ve been noting since early June,” a spokesperson commented.
With this, the count of seismic incidents in the greater Karachi region has now climbed to 39 since the beginning of the month, raising eyebrows among citizens and experts alike regarding the unusual repetition of such quakes.
Emergency services have advised the public to remain alert and adhere to basic earthquake preparedness guidelines in case of any future activity.
