The temperature experienced in Karachi could remain between 43°C and 49°C today, with the city still under the grip of dry and hot weather, with a maximum temperature expected to be between 37°C and 39°C, weather experts opined on Friday.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts the majority of Sindh to be extremely hot and arid during the day, and that the disruption of sea breeze over Karachi and other coastal regions is likely to continue for a few days.
Analysts explained the disruption to a mix of wind circulation in India’s Gujarat state and the operation of a western weather system, both of which could also lead to increasing heat intensity in Karachi.
The Met Department revealed a pre-monsoon weather system could start impacting eastern regions of Sindh from Saturday night.
Rain with rough winds and thunderstorm is possible at scattered places in Tharparkar and Umarkot tomorrow, it added. Rain and gale force winds are also possible in Ghotki, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Tharparkar, and its surrounding areas on Sunday.
The wind activity over Gujarat is likely to trigger pre-monsoon activity in Sindh over the next few days, said weather experts.
Lahore’s heatwave continued on Thursday, with temperatures breaching 44°C and heat intensity indicated at 47°C, the Meteorological Department said. The severe weather was caused by a long dry spell from May to June, according to meteorological officials.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Met Department said the heatwave remained severe in the majority of the districts, including Peshawar, where the temperature was at 40°C and likely to increase up to 44°C.
Dera Ismail Khan and Bannu experienced the highest temperature at 47°C. Light rain has been predicted for Peshawar and other KP districts starting Friday.
