Trump-COAS meeting: Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has hailed meeting between Field Marshal Asim Munir and US President Donald Trump as pivotal moment in 78-year Pakistan-US ties.
He said this in a statement posted on social media site X and in a media interview.
Also, the minister emphasized that this was the first time in history that a sitting US president had formally invited and hosted the head of the Pakistani army.
Meanwhile, he called it a big diplomatic victory that improved Pakistan’s reputation abroad.
Khawaja Asif said, “This meeting’s discussion of regional and international issues highlighted the significance of our beloved homeland on the international scene.”
“It was also recognized that Pakistan can contribute positively to the resolution of important geopolitical issues, such as the Pak-India conflict, which attracted international attention once more.”
Moreover, the minister attributed the visit’s success to the hybrid model of governance.
He stated that recent advancements in security, the economy, and diplomacy were made possible by the close cooperation between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir.
Asif declared, “This is the result of our united national approach.”
“A strong and stable civil-military partnership is reflected in the economic recovery, India’s diplomatic setback, and the improvement of Pakistan-US relations—all of which are revolutionary changes.”
He added that US officials’ post-meeting statements were positive and showed a renewed commitment to working with Pakistan on important strategic issues.
