The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa(KP) government has announced a three-day mourning period across the province in response to the deaths of PTI workers in Islamabad protest.
The KP government held a session chaired by Speaker Babar Salim Swati. During the assembly proceeding speaker highlighted the Article 16 of the Constitution, which gives the right to freedom of expression.
The speaker affirmed that under this article, Pakistani citizens have right to protest and voice their opinions. He condemned the powerful forces who are consistently suppressing these rights. “Whenever a political group speaks, these powerful forces brutally crushed these voices”, the speaker stated.
He said that to shoot down the unarmed PTI workers is a lamentable act on the part of security forces.
Swati also mentioned that the bodies of the dead workers were unaccounted for, and the number of missing individuals was increasing. He lamented that, despite the footage of these events being broadcast around the world, the Pakistani media chose to remain quiet.
Other assembly members also condemned the cruel killing of the PTI workers. Provincial Law Minister Aftab Alam said that the violent attack on the PTI workers during the protest is highly condemnable.
Ending this session KP assembly declared a three-day period of mourning in the province in reaction of deaths of PTI workers.
