Lahore experienced a welcome change in weather on Sundst as ongoing rainfall, accompanied by strong gusts of wind, provided much-needed respite from the recent heat spell.
The drop in temperatures brought widespread relief across the city, with people enjoying the cooler conditions following the persistent showers.
In response to the weather situation, Lahore Commissioner Zaid Bin Maqsood has directed all district-level authorities to remain highly alert and prepared for any potential emergencies. He instructed deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners, and municipal teams to maintain strict vigilance throughout the city.
Commissioner Maqsood stressed the importance of prompt post-rain cleanup by the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) teams. Rainfall measurements are being recorded at 16 major monitoring points across Lahore, he said.
Additionally, the traffic police have been told to ensure the smooth movement of vehicles, especially during peak office hours, while emergency response units at key drainage sites have been asked to stay fully operational.
Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) officials have also been instructed to keep all drainage equipment, disposal stations, and backup systems running efficiently, with special focus on clearing rainwater from low-lying neighborhoods and main roads.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a forecast predicting more rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds across several regions of the country over the next 12 to 24 hours.
In a statement released today, the NDMA mentioned that various areas in Azad Jammu and Kashmir— including Bagh, Rawalakot, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Haveli, Hattian Bala, and Mirpur—can expect moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorm activity.
