Senior journalist Azaz Syed has revealed that prominent real estate developer Malik Riaz recently made two written appeals to Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal General Syed Asim Munir, in an apparent effort to mend ties with the military establishment.
In a recent episode of his YouTube program TalkSHOCK, Syed stated that Riaz sent the first letter on June 3, expressing remorse over his past actions and offering to contribute to the country’s well-being. According to the journalist, a second letter followed around June 12 or 13, in which Riaz pledged to allocate 3,000 kanals of land in honor of the military’s martyrs.
Azaz Syed also claimed that efforts are underway behind the scenes to reconcile with Riaz. He noted that figures such as Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Military Intelligence’s Major General Wajid are reportedly in favor of facilitating the tycoon’s return, citing his economic influence and the current financial challenges Pakistan faces.
However, not everyone in the power corridors is reportedly aligned with this approach. The journalist suggested that some high-ranking intelligence officials, including the heads of the ISI and IB, have expressed reservations about welcoming Riaz back.
These developments come shortly after a significant legal escalation. On May 31, an accountability court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Malik Riaz, his son Ahmed Ali Riaz, and others in connection with the Bahria Town Karachi land acquisition case. The court instructed the investigation officer to produce the accused in court by July 17.
Earlier in March, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had disclosed that it had frozen multiple residential and commercial properties linked to Riaz over allegations of large-scale fraud. The agency reiterated that it is pursuing several ongoing investigations against the real estate magnate and his associates.
